From the analysis of production conditions, in fact, when the ball mill grinds the material, its output will not only be affected by the ball load of the ball mill, but also related to the diameter of the steel ball. Under normal circumstances, in order to ensure the grinding quality, it is required to have a certain ball diameter and a different ball diameter to maintain a certain proportion of the relationship, the size of the ball diameter in the general cylinder range is 25 to 60 mm. If large diameter steel balls are used, the resulting impact force is relatively large, which is advantageous for crushing large pieces of material.

However, at the same time, the gap between the balls of the ball mill will also increase, and the relative surface area will decrease. This will lead to a reduction in the extruding and grinding effects and adversely affect the output of the coal mill and the fineness of the material. However, if the diameter of the steel balls used is too small, the impact force generated will be small, which will reduce the output of the coal mill. At the same time, as the surface area of the steel balls is relatively increased, the wear of the steel balls will increase, and the power consumption of the grinding coal will rise accordingly.

In addition, in the grinding process, taking into account its wear, new ball mill balls need to be replenished periodically to maintain a certain ball load. Generally, large-diameter ball mill balls are filled in, and the amount of ball compensation should be determined based on the ball wear rate and the amount of coal milled.
